The Read-Aloud Volunteer Program receives no government funding. We receive grants and donations from corporations, charitable foundations, and professional associations (a list of these donors appears below.) A large part of our funding is from individuals, including our volunteers.
If you would like to contribute to the Read-Aloud Volunteer Program, there are several ways you can help:
1. *We participate in the Escrip program and the SHARES card program.
ESCRIP
Register your Safeway club card and your Macy’s charge card by either going online to http://www.escrip.com or by completing the attached application form. You can also phone them at 1-800-400-7878. RAVP receives a percentage of the sales. You can also register your credit or debit card (Master Card, Visa, American Express or Discover). There is a long list of merchants who will donate a percentage of their sales to our program when you use a registered card for the purchase. A complete list of businesses that participate can be found online at www.escrip.com. Some examples: Andronico’s, American Airlines, Carrows, Big O Tires, Eddie Bauer, San Francisco Chronicle, West County Times, Whole Foods, etc., etc. Check the website for the complete list.
Once you have signed up your cards, the donation is done automatically when you use the card. It’s that simple. S.H.A.R.E.S. (Lucky’s/ Save Mart, Food Maxx)Ask your coordinator or the RAVP office for a SHARES card. When you shop at one of their stores (like Lucky’s in El Cerrito Plaza), show your SHARES card before the cashier rings up the total. Then pay with whatever method you choose. A percentage of the sale goes to RAVP.
